about

Verdant Grey's first EP, Apologies and Afterthoughts, is a bit introspective in nature, but not really as pretentious as that sounds. It's occasionally meditative, but without the sense of enlightenment or resolution that normally entails.

In short, it's a quiet cigarette halfway through a sleepless night.

Track Name: Shame
Writhing sleep,
enfolded by empty grief,
the weight of your own mistake.

What are you waiting for?

Veiled in shame,
attended by all your fears,
the day fading in distant haze.

What are you waiting for?

Waking at last,
into the endless shade.
Repeating,
lost in reverie.

What are you waiting for?
Track Name: Meditations
Now that I have left again,
maybe this time I'll stay gone.
...an afterimage of an afterthought.

I know the ending every time,
and watch my name become a curse,
on your lips and heart and mine.

How long is the night?
Or has the day come and gone?

Waiting for us to go again,
fearing that I am still the one you knew back then.
Track Name: Clarity
I'm not tired and I'm not cold,
but badly worn an overgrown.
Reaching out for pale sun,
fearing it's the last one.

Turn away and go below,
where the waiting eyes glow.
Passing days and closing doors,
giving up, and wanting more.

...and I know there is no saving this thing.
Track Name: Somniloquy
Counting days again.
Seeing who I should've been,
and wondering how I got so lost, but then,
it's just the way I am.

Running out again.
Wishing I'd had better plans,
and finding myself back where I began.
...but unsure where I stand.

And it's time to go, but I can't seem to find a way.

Shutting down again.
Closing every door I can, and keeping all my shadows close at hand.
...They can understand.

And it's time to go, but I can't seem to find a way.

Everything has changed, but nothing makes a difference.
